5083 grade alloy is a non heat-treatable alloy that contains manganese, chromium and magnesium (among other elements). This gives the alloy an exceptionally high resistance to attack from seawater and chemical environments, which is one of the reasons it is used in the Marine, Tanker and Oil & Gas Industry. It retains good strength after welding and as a result has a higher tensile strength compared with other non heat-treatable alloys.
